SUSE z Dev

1 Download

Download 0.0.8.iso - here

Download 0.0.8 disk image here. For raw use, or conversion to VMWare, VirtualBox, KVM, etc.

Download a Linux installation of your choice. The SLES9 installation kernel, ikr, and initrd are present in the Appliance, as well as the installation bits for Debian 5.0 (Lenny). These files are extracted under /opt/s390

See SLES9 installation for Hercules
* Debian Lenny installation for Hercules

2 Boot

VirtualBox
If using the raw disk image, it must be converted for use with VirtualBox prior to booting.
1. Extract oem (raw) disk image
2. Convert .raw to .vmdk
qemu-img convert -O vmdk ~/Z_11.1.i686-0.0.8.raw ~/Z_11.1.i686-0.0.8.vmdk

Configure a machine for VirtualBox using the .vmdk or .iso. An virtual hard disk is not required unless running the live-installer or persistant storage is needed.

3 Run

Logins:

Username 'zdev', password 'zdev' – regular development user.

Root password is 'linux', which is the SUSE Studio default. This can be changed, if the system is installed with 'yast2 live-installer'.

Hercules
Start zselector:
sh /opt/s390/zselector.sh

No automated startup is enabled (yet) for Hercules, so you must 'ipl c' to bootstrap. The emulated 3505 is equipped to boot SLES9 or Debian, depending on the loaded config file. Hercules can be manually started with
hercules -f /opt/s390/[debian|sles9]/[debian.cnf|sles9.cnf]

Config files:
/opt/s390/sles9/sles9.cnf

/opt/s390/debian/debian.cnf

/etc/hercules.cnf
